SYSTEMS VERSUS GOALS FOR CREATORS
“systems beat goals. level up platform by platform.”
The Lesson
Goals are for losers; systems are for winners. For creators: (1) Go where there's the most energy. Internet beats TV (shorter content, no sadness, quick dopamine hits). (2) Build boss diversification. Lots of customers means no single point of failure. (3) Talent stack. Your unique combination makes you valuable, not individual skills. (4) Start at the lowest level someone will notice (blog → Twitter → Periscope → YouTube → Locals). (5) Each level is a system: build body of work, get attention, move to next platform. (6) Provocative content requires subscription platforms since ads won't support it.
Real-World Example
A developer wants to become a tech influencer. Goal approach: "I want 100K followers." System approach: Start a blog about the obscure framework you use. Share posts on Twitter. Notice what gets engagement. Start a YouTube series on the pattern. Build a newsletter. When the platform du jour (TikTok, Threads, whatever) emerges, you have a body of work to port. Each platform is a level. The system is: create, distribute, learn, level up.
