BEATING PROCRASTINATION
“micro steps build momentum. interest defeats resistance.”
The Lesson
Procrastination yields to specific tricks. Micro steps are the biggest: take the smallest step you're willing to do, like looking up a phone number. These tiny actions pull you in and build interest. Have multiple projects so if one doesn't interest you, another might. Match your energy to the time of day. Find when you're most productive (early morning for me). Make your environment comfortable. Finally, use affirmations: repeat 'I finish what I start' to literally rewire your brain over time. You become the brand you tell yourself you are.
Real-World Example
A founder has been putting off a difficult product pivot for weeks. Instead of tackling the whole thing, they do one micro step: schedule a 15-minute call with one customer. That call sparks interest, leading to another call, then a prototype sketch. They work at 6am when their energy is highest. Meanwhile, they're also advancing two other projects, so any given day has something engaging. Within a month, the 'impossible' pivot is underway because micro steps created momentum.
