LEARNING SOMETHING EFFECTIVELY

hit the subject from multiple angles. variety builds memory.

The Lesson

Like building abs, learning requires hitting the subject from multiple angles. Just reading and trying to memorize is one angle, not enough. Better: sing or chant what you're learning (body helps memory), draw a picture of it, write and rewrite (shrinking the list as you memorize), compare it to something else, imagine situations. A drum teacher teaches the metronome by having students clap and count physically. First beat inverted, next three regular, until the beat becomes part of their body. Every time you bring your body into learning (voice, movement, writing, drawing), you create more hooks for memory. Variety of approaches, not repetition of one approach.

Real-World Example

A founder needs to memorize their pitch for investors. Instead of just rehearsing verbally, they: draw a simple diagram of the business model, write out key points and rewrite them smaller each time, walk around while practicing (body involvement), imagine specific investors asking questions. They even make up a little tune for the three key metrics. By engaging multiple modalities, the pitch becomes automatic. They don't need notes because the memory has multiple hooks.
