THE PSYCHOLOGY OF EXERCISE
“technique is automatic. psychology is everything. find a space that makes you want to be there.”
The Lesson
For fitness results, you need time and technique. Of these, time is what matters. If you spend enough time exercising, technique takes care of itself. You'll get bored, experiment, watch others, read articles, and naturally improve. Don't worry about technique; worry about psychology. Find ways that make you want to be there. A garage gym with the door open feels different than a bedroom treadmill that's an eyesore. Environment shapes behavior. Look for setups that just feel right, and never stop experimenting for something even better.
Real-World Example
A founder struggles to exercise consistently. They've tried home workouts (boring), gyms (commute kills it), apps (ignored). They clear a corner of their garage, add basic equipment, and open the door during workouts. Something about the space just works. They want to be there. Six months later, still going. Technique improved naturally through YouTube videos watched while resting between sets. They never optimized technique; they optimized the space until it felt right.
