CRYPTOCURRENCIES FOR BEGINNERS
“digital money on databases you can't edit. wallet = viewer. codes = ownership.”
The Lesson
Crypto basics: digital money existing only as bits on computers. Bitcoin, Ethereum, and a few others matter. The rest don't have enough circulation to easily convert to cash. Blockchain is a database where you can add things but never edit the past. If anyone messes with it, the network notices. A 'wallet' is misleading. It's just a viewer app, nothing's actually 'in' it. You own crypto through codes (long strings of characters). If someone gets your codes, they get your money. No recourse. Exchanges let you swap cryptos or cash out. Smart contracts let you program automatic agreements.
Real-World Example
A founder wants crypto in their talent stack but finds it intimidating. They start simple: download MetaMask (carefully. Scammers create fake versions), buy $100 of ETH through a major exchange, and send it to their wallet to understand the flow. They learn: wallet is a viewer, codes are ownership, transactions are irreversible. Now they can follow crypto discussions intelligently and spot opportunities others miss. The $100 was tuition.
