A SYSTEM FOR NOT LOSING YOUR STUFF

each item lives in exactly three places. never search again.

The Lesson

Stop losing things with the Rule of Three: each item can only exist in one of three designated spots (pocket, dresser, car cup holder). When you look for it, only three places to check. Create a drawer downstairs with essentials you'd otherwise run upstairs for-eliminates 80% of trips. Own only shirts that go with everything-no morning decisions. Systematize your entire house. Warning: other people may not respect your system. When your spouse turns your organized drawer into a junk drawer, quietly create a new system they haven't discovered yet.

Real-World Example

A founder constantly loses their AirPods and keys, wasting 15 minutes daily searching. They implement Rule of Three: AirPods live on the nightstand, in the jacket pocket, or in the laptop bag. Keys live on the hook, in the right pocket, or in the car. Three weeks later, search time drops to zero. They extend the system: home office has duplicates of everything the upstairs office needs. Trips eliminated. Small systems, huge time savings.
