SYSTEMS FOR LIVING WITH OTHERS
“your system may need to adapt to others' systems.”
The Lesson
Systems work until you live with someone else. A simple laundry system: keep wooden hangers (not wire, they tangle) in a box, reach over without looking, hang the garment. But when Christina's system overlaps, she puts ALL the hangers back. Now you have to dig through them. The system still works, just modified. If you live with somebody, you may have to adapt your systems. But you can make it work.
Real-World Example
A founder has a perfect morning routine: wake at 5am, gym, cold shower, deep work. Then they get a co-founder who needs early calls with Europe. The system breaks. Adaptation: shift deep work to evening, keep gym but move it. The system isn't ruined. It's modified for the overlap. Two people's systems rarely mesh perfectly, but both can still work with small adjustments.
