FUN OVER EFFICIENCY

if the efficient way is boring, do the fun way instead.

The Lesson

A tennis coach taught me: when getting kids into tennis, focus on fun and success first. Don't teach skills. Make them enjoy it, and skills will follow. I'm learning audio tech by experimenting sloppily instead of taking a class. Could I hire an engineer? Take a course? Yes, but I wouldn't enjoy those, so I wouldn't do them. If the efficient way is boring and you won't do it, try the fun sloppy trial-and-error way. You might fail, but at least you'll learn something. Sometimes fun beats efficiency because efficiency that doesn't happen beats nothing.

Real-World Example

A founder needs to learn sales. Efficient way: read SPIN Selling, practice scripts, study CRM data. Boring. Fun way: just start calling people and see what happens. They'll fail more, but they'll actually do it. After 50 calls, they'll have learned more than from any book they wouldn't have read.
