The Lesson
Focus techniques: (1) Chant your task aloud ('write check, write check') to survive the distraction gauntlet. (2) Time of day matters. Most people focus best 4am-10am. (3) Exercise hours before. Exhausted body stays seated. (4) Remove all distractions: restroom, hunger, noise (use noise-canceling headphones), even window light. (5) Imagine direct payment. 'I get $100 for finishing this.' (6) Coffee + snack as anchor. Pavlovian trigger for focus state. (7) Study buddy. Some personalities (especially Asperger types) focus better with someone else working nearby. A-B test what works for you.
Real-World Example
A founder can't focus on investor deck. They implement: gym at 6am, eggs for breakfast, blackout curtains, noise-canceling headphones, coffee + specific snack. They chant 'finish deck' walking to desk. Imagine: 'This deck = $1M raise.' Three hours of deep work. The system produced what willpower couldn't.
