OCCAM'S DOUBLE-EDGED RAZOR

occam's razor cuts both ways. simple often means limited thinking.

The Lesson

Occam's Razor says the explanation with fewest assumptions is usually correct. But apply it to God vs evolution vs simulation: all three require something that always existed (God, matter/energy, or the base of simulations). Each is exactly as complicated as the others. The 'simpler' explanation often belongs to people with simpler mental models. They just can't think of more. Einstein showed time is probably an illusion, and energy never changes. So 'what came first' is equally unanswerable for all three. Occam's Razor is double-edged: it might just reward limited imagination.

Real-World Example

A founder debates origins with a physicist friend. The friend says 'simulation theory adds unnecessary complexity.' The founder asks: 'What came before God? What came before the Big Bang? Each requires something always existed.' The friend pauses. They hadn't applied Occam's Razor to their own assumptions. Both realize 'simpler' might just mean 'closer to what I can conceive.'
