MEDIA INFLUENCE SPECTRUM
“all media influences. organized influence is strongest. awareness is the only defense.”
The Lesson
All media influences how you think-the question is degree and organization. Scattered, commercial-grade influence (individual pundits, viral content) is easier to escape because it's disorganized. Coordinated, institutional influence is harder because multiple sources reinforce the same frame. If your favorite sources never show the other side, you're being influenced whether you know it or not. Escape requires first recognizing influence exists. No one is immune-only aware. The people most captured are those who believe they're seeing objective reality. Consume broadly, notice what's missing from each source.
Real-World Example
A founder realizes they only read tech-optimist sources. They deliberately add skeptics to their feed. Initially uncomfortable-these people seem 'wrong.' After months, they notice: their original sources left out legitimate concerns. They weren't seeing reality; they were seeing a curated frame. Now they consume both and triangulate. Still influenced, but aware of it.
